Hi all,
I was wondering if something could be done to find the latest posts in a very long topic. For example, ifthe last time i read and posted to a topic that had 40 posts, then the next day, that topic had 10 20 or 30 more posts, I either have to read the first 40 posts all over again, or tab 60 to 80 times to get to the last 10 to 30 posts. I was just wondering if perhaps there could be an edit field where you could type in the post number where you wanted to start. if you've read the first 40 posts of a topic, and want to read the last ten or so posts that have been added, you could maybe type 41. Thanks,

I agree, this sounds like a grand idea.
I love long topics that i'm interested in, like the what are you reading right now topic, just love it, but there are already 101 posts on it lol, and I had to press control end to get to the bottom of the page, then press page up and down a few times to get to the newest posts in that topic.

Why don't you just type control +F and then type in whichever post you want to read. For example, If I want to read your last post on this topic, all I need to do is type Control +F, and then type "post 3 of 3" in the edit field. This will take me directly to your post and skip all the others. Just use the find command (Control+F).
i still like the first idea, if say, you don't know how many posts there are, that idea would work grate
Raskolnikov is right. If you aren't sure which post to start with, type anything you remember from the last time you were here, like your name if you posted earlier. You can also press ctrl+end to get to the bottom of the page and arrow up a few lines, if you just want to look at the last post. A little creativity on our parts means the staff gurus can spend more time giving us new games, or figuring out how to give the zone new style.

yes. the jaws find command is your friend!
Don't forget, once you've entered something in the jaws find command, you can hit f3 to look for the next instance of the same thing, or shift f3 to look for the previous instance.

hmm...i just tried it and it works for me
it works for me too, provided I rememberthe last message number of a topic i've read lol.

I either use the JAWS find command or simply use the page down button a few times or go to the bottom and use the page up button. I agree with whoever said the admins have bigger things to worry about.
I do as well. The admins aren't your parents, they shouldn't monitor how far you've reached in a topic. The find command and memory are your friends, use them.
As others have said, use your memory in conjunction with jaws find. I think this is also an appropriate time to bring up place markers; there's also the letter j in conjunction with line numbers. Lots of routes to choose from, none of which require extra work by the admins.
That, or if you don't feel like signing in all the time just to read, you can go to the Boards and then to Topics with New Posts and see wich ones have added posts. You can do that at least once a day without signing in. That's what I do; actually I do it more than that, I'm bad about comming here more often than I should. *smile* But anyway, yeah. Then if you want to reply to something, just sign in of course, go back to the Topics with New Posts chioce, and find which one you want to respond to. Or maybe if you don't want to chance rereading each discussion all the time, you can copy and paste the ones you want to keep track of. I'll put an example of that in my following post since I forgot to copy one before I started typing here.
OK. Say you want to keep track of this discussion. You could creat a document and copy and paste:
wonderwoman an easier way to find the latest posts in a topic? 14 posts today 12:09:24 by Tinkerbell 84 views Zone BBS Suggestions
Then save the file to your Desktop where you can open it right away, and that way you just come here and see whether the number of posts has changed and therefore whether to read it. And of course you'd use the mentioned Find command to find the user name that last posted before you saved the info. It's actrually not as much work as it looks like, at least I wouldn't think so. As for long discussions, I think no matter what you do, you're really not going to remember everything said. Even I get frustrated with having to read each post in a long game to make sure I don't repeat something that was already mentioned, but ther really would be no way around that that I know of. Hope that helped some. *smile*
